What's Open, Closed For Labor Day 2020 In Alexandria
As the unofficial end of summer approaches, here are the service changes to know for the Labor Day holiday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Summer may have looked different this year because of the pandemic, but Labor Day is still the time to bid the season farewell before pools close and kids start classes. In Alexandria, there are various closings and schedule changes to know for the holiday.
On Monday, Sept. 7, City of Alexandria government offices will be closed to observe Labor Day. Students at Alexandria City Public Schools will begin the school year in a virtual format the next day, Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Below are the schedule changes to know for the Labor Day holiday in Alexandria:

City of Alexandria offices: Closed on Sept. 7.
State offices: The following Commonwealth of Virginia offices in Alexandria will be closed on Sept. 7: the Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and Court Service Unit, located in the Alexandria Courthouse (520 King Street); and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office (2681 Mill Road).

Alexandria City Public Schools: Alexandria City Public Schools and administrative offices will be closed on Sept. 7. The first day of school is Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Animal shelter: The Vola Lawson Animal Shelter will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 7 by appointment only, with virtual and in-shelter animal visitations. To make an appointment, visit AlexandriaAnimals.org/Adopt-By-Appointment. For an animal emergency or wildlife concern, call 703-746-4444.
DASH Bus: On Monday, Sept. 7, DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule. The free King Street Trolley remains suspended until further notice due to the pandemic. For more information, visit dashbus.com.
Health facilities: The Alexandria Health Department (4480 King St.), the Flora Krause Casey Health Center (1200 N. Howard St.), and the Teen Wellness Center at T.C. Williams High School (3329 King St.) will be closed on September 7.
Historic Alexandria facilities: On Sept. 7, Gadsby's Tavern Museum and Alexandria’s History Museum at The Lyceum will be closed. All other city-owned museums remain closed to the public due to the pandemic. For more information, visit alexandriava.gov/Historic.
Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline at 703-746-5800; the domestic violence hotline at 703-746-4911; the emergency services for mental health or substance abuse crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the adult protective services hotline at 703-746-5778; and the sexual assault hotline at 703-683-7273.
Impound lot: The City’s Impound Facility (5249 Eisenhower Avenue) will be closed on Sept. 7.
Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches and the Alexandria Law Library (520 King Street) will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7. Curbside pickup service will not be available on Friday, Sept. 4 and Monday, Sept. 7.
Metrorail: Metrorail operates from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Labor Day.
Metrobus: Metrobus runs on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day. See bus schedules here.
Outdoor pools: The Old Town Pool is open through the online ticketing and lottery systems on Sept. 7 and the Labor Day weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Memorial Pool and Warwick Pool are closed. For more information, visit alexandriava.gov/Aquatics.
Parking enforcement: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, residential permit parking districts and other areas with posted parking time limits on Monday, Sept. 7. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces and does not permit parking in any location normally prohibited (such as no-parking zones, loading zones or spaces for persons with disabilities). Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced on Sept. 7.
Recreation and arts centers: On Sept. 7, all recreation and nature centers will be closed, including Chinquapin Park Recreation Center & Aquatics Facility and Torpedo Factory Art Center.
Trash and recycling collection: For city collection customers, residential refuse and recycling will not be collected on Sept. 7. Collection services will be delayed by one day during the week of Sept. 7, and yard waste will not be collected on Friday, Sept. 11. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center (3224 Colvin Street) will be closed on Sept. 7.
