Will Skies Clear for Perfect Weekend?: Weather in Northern Virginia

Sunny skies on the weekend and showers once we return to work next week. Isn’t that the perfect forecast?

We'll start out the weekend with a chance for storms Friday afternoon and evening. If storms do appear, there’s no warning that they’ll be severe like the ones that produced a tornado in Maryland earlier this week, says the National Weather Service.

But the real story this weekend is sun, sun and more sun — time to head to the beach.

Daytime highs will be 84 degrees on Saturday and up to 85 degrees on Sunday and climbing even higher as you get closer to D.C. Lows overnight Saturday and into Sunday will drop to 67 degrees.

Temperatures will climb next week, with chances for severe weather returning by Tuesday.

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Northeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers between 8pm and 11pm. Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. East wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Northeast wind around 8 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 67. East wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 85. Southeast wind 3 to 8 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66.

Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
