Cheney Scores 2,000th Point in Mason’s 63-30 Win
Mustangs head into Region B Semi Finals with win over William Monroe.

George Mason High School’s top basketball scorer achieved another milestone racking up her 2,000th points in a 63-30 win over William Monroe High Tuesday night.
Stephanie Cheney, who will play her college basketball at the University of Pennsylvania next season, scored 22 points in the Region B Quarterfinals Tournament to give her 2,002 points for her career. Last season, Cheney surpassed former Mason basketball star Kate Jackson (1,185 career points) to become the school’s all-time leading scorer. Cheney said it was great to reach the new plateau in her last home game in a Mason uniform.
“I didn’t know it was my 2,000th basket,” Cheney said. “My teammates made all of this possible for me.”

Head Coach LaBryan Thomas said next season will be different with a younger cast of players but he believes the Mustangs can contend. With returning players Katie Goodwin (18 points against William Monroe), guard Ava Roth (seven points in the game) and a host of others, Mason will have talent coming back.
“Hopefully they work hard in the offseason,” Thomas said of his returning players.
