A Day of Giving During A Pandemic
Holiday food drive to help out those in need in the Culmore community of Falls Church.
Millions of people across the nation are struggling, due to the COVID-19 impact. Some communities in Northern VA have been affected particular hard. Earlier in the fall Gentle Touch Dentistry For All Ages, a local dental practice took action to help raise awareness and feed those affected the most due to COVID-19 in the Falls Church Community. Dr. Ramineh Kangarloo, the practice owner conjointly with her practice staff, reached out to Second Story. The program helps assist primarily minority families under the poverty line, homeless youth, and single mothers.

With the assistance from the community the practice was able to raise funds and receive food donations to distribute to 250 families in the program. A local store Super-A-Mart was able to coordinate logistics and delivery of the food purchased by the practice. Safeway in Falls Church donated paper bags for packaging.

On Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving holiday, practice staff arrived at the Second Story Center at the Culmore area of Falls Church, Virginia to distribute the food. A line had already formed at the center before the staff arrived around 1pm.

Families with their young children were seen eager to receive their food bag. Even children probably 5-7 years of age, were there to pick up a bag for their families that were away at work or sick. This was heartbreaking to watch, but it truly gave meaning as to why Gentle Touch Dentistry For All Ages did this in the first place. To give back to those less fortunate in the community in times of need, especially now, during the middle of a pandemic affecting the most vulnerable people in our communities.
