Super Bowl 2013: 49ers Fan from Falls Church Hopes to Add to Super Bowl Memories

Samantha Wright moved to Falls Church from the Bay area and brought her love for the Super Bowl XLVII-bound San Francisco 49ers with her.

Samantha Wright has followed the San Francisco 49ers since 1993 when she lived there for work.

A Northern Virginia native who moved to Falls Church in 2000, Wright still follows her team and is all ready for Sunday’s Super Bowl. She believes her 49ers will pull out a 28-24 victory over the Baltimore Ravens and add to the Super Bowl folklore.

“My favorite memory of the 49ers in a Super Bowl was Super Bowl XXIX – 'The California Bowl' - San Diego Chargers vs. San Francisco 49ers,” Wright said. “My husband and I were living in San Francisco at the time.  I remember watching the first few minutes of the game and when Steve Young threw that 44-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Rice, I thought to myself – ‘GAME OVER!’  I was right as the 49ers went on that night to win their fifth Super Bowl title. The celebration in San Francisco was a sight I will never forget.”

Ravens and 49ers fans alike will be gathering to watch the Super Bowl this weekend at home or at bars and restaurants throughout Falls Church.

But finding gear for either team at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Falls Church isn’t an option as the store only has Washington Redskins memorabilia for sale.

Wright said she didn’t have a problem getting stuff to wear Sunday because she ordered her “red and gold gear,” online and her sons found 49ers balloons for her locally.

After biting her nails through a close NFC Championship Game between her 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons, Wright said she is watching the Super Bowl from home. Last year, when the 49ers again reached the NFC Championship Game, Wright threw a watch party complete with a spread of food dedicated to the city of San Francisco.

They lost 20-17 in overtime to the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants.

“That party didn't end well so I am a little nervous about having this party — so I am calling it a ‘small gathering,’ to watch the game,” Wright said. “I have a feeling we are in for a good game Sunday.”
