Falls Church Arts Reschedules Plein Air Festival To October

The festival will be held with guidance from public officials due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Falls Church Arts will put on its "Scenes in the City" Plein Air Festival in October after initially delaying the event. Artists will paint throughout the week of Oct. 10 to 17, and the festival will take place on Oct. 17 at Falls Church City Hall grounds, 300 Park Avenue.

The event will kick off with artists painting outdoors at various places around the city from Oct. 10 to 17. Artists are encouraged to paint scenes from various attractions around Falls Church City, such as the Cherry Hill Farmhouse and Barn, Tinner Hill historic sites, Falls Church Farmers Market, The Eden Center, State Theatre, and various city parks.

Artists will submit their works for judging between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17. In addition, a Quick Draw Competition open to all skill levels and ages will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Oct. 17. Artists will register, create their plein air works, and submit it for judging.

Various prizes are available from sponsors, and most winners will be chosen by judges. The Artists Choice Award will be selected by artist entrants, and the People’s Choice Award will be voted on by the general public from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 17.

According to the Falls Church Arts website, the event will account for guidance from public officials amid COVID-19 health concerns. The rain date for the Oct. 17 event is Oct. 24.

Falls Church Arts, which also runs a gallery at 700-B West Broad Street, has closed it until further notice. As reported by the Falls Church News-Press, Falls Church Arts' annual Halloween window painting at businesses will not take place this year.
