Falls Church Flash Flood: Five Inches Of Rain Recorded

FALLS CHURCH, VA — As heavy showers hit the area, the City of Falls Church is under a flash flood warning until 6:15 p.m. Friday, July 28. A few inches of rain is already drenching the area, and a few more could be on the way.

The National Weather Service says the county could receive another 2 inches of precipitation as storm move through the area. A flash flood watch has also been issued from 2 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday. Locations that may experience flooding include the City of Falls Church, Alexandria, Arlington County and Fairfax County.

Northern Virginia drivers are likely to face difficult travel due to persistent downpours, excess water on the road and poor visibility, according to AccuWeather. Residents are urged to not drive or walk through flooded areas.

10 a.m. - Falls Church recorded over five inches of rain.

9 a.m. - Be aware of fallen trees resulting from the heavy rain.

8:50am: Saturated ground causing trees to topple. Use extra care walking or driving in wooded areas today.


8:30 p.m. - A tree fell down over the Fairfax County Parkway, temporarily shutting down southbound lanes.

6 p.m. - A tree fell down and is blocking traffic at Annandale Road/Graham Road in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County.

5:30 p.m. - Don't expect the flash flooding to let up this evening in Falls Church, the National Weather Service cautions.

5 p.m. - Flooding is taking its toll near a stream in Arlington.

3:20 p.m. - Flash flood warning extended through 6:15 p.m.

2:40 p.m. - Showers are now turning into thunderstorms. Here's the latest outlook going into the evening.

1 p.m. - Areas including Annandale have already seen three or more inches of rainfall.

12:30 p.m. - Beach Drive in Kensington, Md. is showing some alarming flooding.

12:20 p.m. - A car in Olney, Md. became so flooded it had to be pushed into a parking spot.

11:40 a.m. - Heavy rain has begun to hit Maryland and DC and are coming this way.

10 a.m. - National Weather Service issues a flash flooding for areas including Falls Church.
