Falls Church Fourth Of July Fireworks Won't Happen In 2020
Construction at George Mason High School means the fireworks show won't go on this year.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Fireworks won't light up the night on Fourth of July this year in Falls Church.
The city announced the fireworks show won't be scheduled due to construction of the new George Mason High School. A tradition for over 40 years, the Fourth of July event is typically held at the high school with fireworks viewing from the athletic fields. It tends to draw around 10,000 people and also includes live music, concessions and more entertainment.
A Fourth of July event at a different location is being planned. The city will announce details at a later time.

"We are disappointed our fireworks display is not possible this year," said Danny Schlitt, director of Recreation and Parks. "However, this doesn’t mean we are not celebrating the Fourth of July! We will still offer a unique, family-friendly event in the City. Our creative team is finalizing the details – we are excited to celebrate in a different, but still patriotic, way this year."
The city anticipates the fireworks show will return in 2021. The timeline for the George Mason High School construction project calls for a completion date in fall 2021.
