FALLS CHURCH, VA — 2019 is coming to a close, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate the new year. Whether you prefer staying at home to watch the ball drop in TV or heading out to celebrate at a local party, we have you covered.

The intersection of Broad and Washington Streets closes to traffic for this New Year's Eve spectacular. Enjoy free fun like live music, children's amusements, carryout food from restaurants and more. It all leads to the countdown to the lowering of the historic star dating back to 1948.

The 100 block of W Broad Street, including the intersection of Broad and Washington Streets (Route 29/Lee Highway), will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and ending at 1 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1. 100 block of West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046

The Legwarmers New Year's Eve at State Theatre: Doors at 7 p.m. and show at 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 31

Ring in the new year with a nostalgic dance party celebrating the 80s. Buffet food will be available from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This event is for ages 21 and up. 220 N Washington St, Falls Church, VA 22046

First Night Alexandria: Dec. 31

This family-friendly event features local performers and children's entertainment at venues around the city. It all leads up to the midnight fireworks over the Potomac River with viewing at the foot of King Street. Tickets are required to enter First Night Alexandria venues, but fireworks viewing is free.

Big Night DC New Year's Eve Extravaganza: 9 p.m.-3 a.m. on Dec. 31-Jan. 1

This massive event features 15 themed party areas, five dance floors, a lineup of live music, party favors and view of fireworks over the Potomac River. Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, 201 Waterfront St, National Harbor, MD 20745

New Year's Eve at Caboose Commons: Beginning at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31

The local brewery is hosting a New Year's Eve party with no fee to enter. Falling Home will provide music beginning at 9 p.m. All ages are welcome, and IDs will be checked at the door. You can also reserve a spot for $100 per seat. New this year is ‘Da Fancy’ Lounge on the third floor for ages 21 and up. Roaring 20s New Year's Eve at Blackfinn Merrifield: Starting at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31

As we head into 2020, it's only appropriate we pay homage to the roaring 20's a century ago. The event features 1920s inspired cocktails, a midnight champagne toast, live DJ, 1920s inspired party favors, photo station and more. 2750 Gallows Road Vienna, VA 22180

Brew Year’s Eve at City Works: Dec. 31

Ring in the new year with chef's specials and selected beer and wine pairings. Enjoy party music, enter to win a $100 gift card, and join the champagne toast at midnight. Partygoers are invited to come back to City Works the next morning beginning at 10 a.m. to celebrate 2020 with a New Year’s Day Rock N’ Roll recovery brunch with dishes such as the Jon Bun Jovi, Chak Shuka Khan, and the Johnny Hash. Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest: 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 on ABC

This New Year's Eve special broadcast live from Times Square is a tradition for many families. Performers confirmed for the New York City festivities are Post Malone, BTS, Sam Hunt and Alanis Morissette, according to The Washington Post.
