Falls Church Waives Fees For Bulk Collections After Flooding

Residents won't have to pay a fee for scheduling bulk collections this week and next week.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Falls Church will waive fees for the next two bulk collections after Monday's flash flooding. This offer applies to bulk collections only on Wednesday, July 10 and July 17.

Residents receiving normal trash collection services are eligible. Special collections must be requested by calling Solid Waste Hotline at 703-248-5160 and choosing option 1.

The deadline to schedule a collection for Wednesday, July 10 has already passed. The deadline to schedule a Wednesday, July 17 pickup is noon on Tuesday, July 16. When scheduling the collection, residents should disclose if any items were exposed to sewer backflow.

Bulk items that can be picked up without fees include furniture, household appliances, rugs and other items too large or heavy to fit into trash containers. Items must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day.

Items used for work involving a contractor are not eligible for these special collections. Contractors must arrange for the removal of items or contact a private company.

These items are not collected:

  • Bricks, concrete, concrete blocks, rocks, stone
  • Construction debris, such as dry wall
  • Contractor trash or yard waste
  • Dirt, sod, sand, railroad ties
  • Asbestos
  • Hazardous waste
  • Paint cans with wet paint
  • Tires
