Member of Literacy Council of Northern Virginia’s Senior Team Selected as a 2021 Northern Virginia 40 under 40 Honoree
Falls Church, VA – The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia (LCNV) is proud to share that its Director of Partnerships and Community Engagement, Ruba Marshood Afzal, was selected as one of Leadership Center for Excellence and Leadership Fairfax 2021 Northern Virginia 40 Under 40 award winners. Ruba along with 39 other leaders demonstrate exceptional and impactful leadership in their professional and personal spheres across Northern Virginia.

*As part of the LCNV Senior Team, Ruba helped plan and communicate LCNV’s response to a global pandemic as it shifted to offering English classes virtually and has been able to serve over 1000 learners since March 2020.
*Ruba has written grants resulting in more than $350,000 over five years for Destination Workforce®, LCNV’s workforce development program, permitting capacity growth,

*Ruba was one of the co-leads for the workgroup on Outreach of Fairfax County’s Community Provider Coordination Team (CPCT) and currently co-leads the County’s Community Provider Strategy Team (CPST) that bring together providers across the assistance network to share experiences, observations, and reimagined service delivery models in response to the pandemic ensuring the County is reaching the residents who need social services the most.
*Ruba was appointed by the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Supervisor to serve on ACPS’ 2025 Strategic Planning Committee, where she assisted in developing and gaining School Board approval of the new plan committing ACPS to authentically engage families and the community in their children’s education.
