New Year's Eve won't be as warm as this Monday turned out, according to National Weather Service projections.
WASHINGTON, DC — After a Monday that feels like a false spring, things will cool down for New Year's Eve as DC area residents count down to 2020. For those attending First Night Alexandria fireworks, Watch Night Falls Church and other outdoor events, precipitation doesn't look likely.
According to the National Weather Service, Monday's temperatures climbed above 60 degrees after rain tampered off. New Year's Eve on Tuesday will remain sunny, but the high is expected to be 52 degrees with wind gusts as high as 18 mph in Washington, DC. The temperature could drop to 35 degrees at night with partly cloudy conditions.

New Year's Day doesn't have precipitation in the forecast, but gusts up to 18 mph could stick around. Rain isn't projected until after the New Year's holiday.

- Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Showers are likely at night with a low around 43. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
- Friday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. The chance of showers drops to 40 percent at night with a low around 48.
- Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. The night will be partly cloudy with a low around 36.
