No Property Tax Increase In Falls Church Budget

FALLS CHURCH, VA — The city manager for Falls Church unveiled a budget proposal Monday for the coming fiscal year that calls for no increase in the city's property tax rate, though it proposes a 7 percent boost in spending to nearly $100 million.

At Monday's City Council hearing, City Manager Wyatt Shields presented a proposed budget for fiscal 2020 The city's property tax rate would remain unchanged at $1.355 per $100 in assessed value.

The budget includes $43.4 million for the city's school system, a 2.5 percent hike over the curent fiscal year.

Debt service would rise by 46.5 percent in fiscal 2020 as the city finances major capital projects, including improvements at George Mason High School and Mary Riley Styles Public Library.

City leaders will discuss the proposed budget, as well as the West Falls Church Economic Development project and George Mason High School project, at a Town Hall meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the Falls Church Senior Center, 223 Little Falls St.
