Overnight Ramp Closures Impact Arlington, Falls Church I-66 Exits
Drivers traveling overnight must use other exits and detour routes due to ramp closures this week.

ARLINGTON, VA — Overnight asphalt paving will require ramp closures on Interstate 66 exits in the Arlington and Falls Church area. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the work is part of the I-66 eastbound widening project, which will add another eastbound lane on a portion of the highway.
The first closure will affect the ramp from I-66 east to Exit 68 (Westmoreland Street) on Aug. 11 and 12. Traffic will be directed to Exit 69 (Washington Boulevard/Lee Highway). To get to Westmoreland Street, drivers can turn right on Lee Highway toward the City of Falls Church, turn right on West Jefferson Street, turn right on Little Falls Street, turn left on Fairfax Drive and turn right on North Westmoreland Street. The closure will happen on both nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The second closure will happen on the ramp from eastbound I-66 to Exit 69 (Washington Boulevard/Lee Highway) on Aug. 13 and 14. Traffic will be directed to Exit 68 (Westmoreland Street). To access Lee Highway, drivers will exit and stay to the right on Westmoreland Street, turn left at the stop sign onto Fairfax Drive, then stay to the right to continue on Fairfax Drive toward Lee Highway. The closure is planned both nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The I-66 eastbound widening project will add a travel lane on about four miles of eastbound I-66 between Dulles Connector Road and Exit 71 (Fairfax Drive). Along with the widening, crews are adding and replacing noise walls, making ramp modifications at Exits 69 and 71, and completing bridge widening, rehabilitations and other repairs on I-66. The new eastbound lane is expected to open in fall 2020.
