Power Outages, Downed Trees Impact Falls Church Area

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Power outages and road closures are impacting the greater Falls Church area during Friday's storm.

According to Dominion Energy's power outage map Friday morning, over 300 customers lost power in an area south of Broad Street as well as nearly 500 in Bailey's Crossroads. Over 100 people lost power in the Seven Corners area, and nearly 300 lost power west of Sleepy Hollow Road near Annandale.

Fairfax County Police reported a few road closures in the area. In the Bailey's Crossroads area, traffic signals lost power on Leesburg Pike from Skyline Drive to South Jefferson Street. The power outage resulted from a crash, and drivers should expect delays. Columbia Pike at Carlin Springs Road was closed due to a downed tree on power lines. In addition, Sleepy Hollow Road is blocked between Valley Brook Drive and Deerborn Drive due to fallen trees into power lines.

Falls Church is under a wind advisory until 3 p.m. Friday. Expect west winds around 20 to 30 mph with gusts around 50 to 55 mph. These strong winds could blow around unsecured items, and downed tree limbs could result in power outages.
