SAIC Laying Off 150 Falls Church Employees in May

Company cites the expiration of a contract the workers were assigned.

SAIC has warned 150 employees at their Falls Church campus on Arlington Boulevard that they will be laid off in May.

The SAIC employees, who worked on a contract for Advanced Information Technology Systems, were given a 60-day notice on March 22, company spokeswoman Jennifer Gephart said in a statement. The contract ends on May 22. General Services Administration's Federal Systems Integration and Management Center, the company who gave SAIC the contract, gave the contract to another company.

“SAIC has provided approximately 150 employees working on the AITS contract with 60 days of notice of a possible reduction in force effective May 22, which may result in permanent layoffs,” Gephart said in a statement.

According to the Washington Business Journal, the five-year AITS contract was awarded to SAIC in 2008 and was worth $45 million.

In the statement, Gephart said GSA awarded a contract for the work the employees at the Falls Church SAIC campus were doing to another contractor.

SAIC will assist employees in their search in finding employment elsewhere in the company as well as with other companies, including the new contractor, according to the release.
