SEVEN CORNERS, VA — If your commute takes you through Seven Corners, expect some upcoming disruptions. The Virginia Department of Transportation announced road closures for work on the Wilson Boulevard bridge over Arlington Boulevard.

Eastbound and westbound Arlington Boulevard (Route 50) will be closed at the Route 7 interchange from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5. In addition, eastbound Wilson Boulevard will be closed between the eastbound Arlington Boulevard service road and westbound Arlington Boulevard service road. Crews will be demolishing the Wilson Boulevard bridge deck over Arlington Boulevard and installing a new bridge deck.

Arlington Boulevard traffic heading east will follow a detour on the Arlington Boulevard service road and go back onto Route 50. Westbound traffic will also be detoured on the service road back to Route 50.

The project is intended to make improvements for drivers and pedestrians and extend the life of the bridge, which was built in 1958. New sidewalk on the opposite side of the bridge is one of the planned improvements. For the area undergoing road work, an average 7,500 vehicles use Wilson Boulevard daily, while 51,000 use Arlington Boulevard.
