Street sweeping happens several times a year in the warmer months. The city estimates sweeping removes 200 tons of debris each year, preventing it from entering waterways through storm drains.

Most debris and pollutants accumulate in the gutter pan, especially in areas with cars regularly parked or with low-hanging trees. Residents can help prevent debris from making it to streams by sweeping their gutter pans when rocks, leaves, sediment and other debris accumulates. Debris should be thrown in the trash, not with yard waste.
