Town Hall Planned On Development Proposal In Falls Church
A mixed-use development proposal at Broad and Washington Streets is under review by the city.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — After a deferred Falls Church City Council vote on a proposed mixed-use development, a town hall and walking tour of the site will be held this week.
Insight Property Group has proposed a seven-story mixed-use building at the intersection of East Broad and North Washington Streets. The proposal includes a Whole Foods Market, retail and a theater, multifamily apartments above the ground floor, a Whole Foods Market and four levels of an underground and above grade parking garage. Up to five levels of residential apartments, or 339 units, are proposed.
The development proposal includes parcels at 100 North Washington Street, 127 East Broad Street, 131 East Broad Street, and a public parking lot on Park Place owned by the city. The site is currently occupied by an office building hosting various businesses at the intersection of East Broad and North Washington Streets, a now-closed Applebee's restaurant, a medical office building at the intersection of E Broad and Lawton Streets, and a public parking lot on Park Place.

A vote on the proposal was previously deferred by City Council to October. According to a newsletter from Council Member Letty Hardi, the developer made progress on issues such as parking for the Sept. 14 public hearing. But she also wanted assurance that Whole Foods would occupy the space, increased public open space, improved architecture and transition to the neighbors, and outreach to neighboring businesses and residents to hear and address concerns.
City Council will host a walking tour of the Broad and Washington site on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Insight Property Group will guide the tour and present their latest development proposal to the community. Anyone attending is asked to wear a face mask and maintain six feet of physical distancing during the tour.
