What's Open, Closed For Fourth Of July 2021 Around Falls Church

Falls Church canceled its Fourth of July fireworks display on Sunday, while some closures are planned for Monday.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — With COVID-19 metrics improved from earlier in 2021, many Fourth of July celebrations will be returning to Northern Virginia.

Unfortunately, Falls Church's annual Fourth of July fireworks event has been canceled again due to construction at Meridian High School (formerly George Mason High School).

While there will be no fireworks, the Falls Church Recreation and Parks Department is holding a one-day Independence Day themed Scavenger Hunt on July 4.

The Independence Day holiday falls on Sunday, July 4, which also means Monday, July 5 will be the observed holiday for closures. City of Falls Church government offices will be closed on July 5, and other services will have schedule changes.

City of Falls Church government offices: Closed on July 5.

City of Falls Church Public Schools: July 5 is a holiday for all employees.

Library: The Mary Riley Styles library is closed as it undergoes renovation and expansion. Contactless curbside pickup service at the temporary library trailers at 601 S. Oak St. will be closed on July 5.

Community center: Closed on July 5.

Courts: The Falls Church Combined District Courts will be closed on July 5.

Trash and recycling pickup: Falls Church trash and recycling will occur as usual on Wednesday, July 7.

Metro: Metrorail will offer additional service on July 4 to accommodate riders attending fireworks displays. On July 5, trains will run on a Sunday schedule. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on both days. Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule on July 4 and 5. See timetables for details. MetroAccess customers can make reservations during the holiday, but subscription trips will be canceled both days.

Post offices: Closed on July 5.
