What's Open, Closed For Labor Day 2020 In Falls Church

As the unofficial end of summer approaches, here are the service changes to know for the Labor Day holiday.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Summer may have looked different this year because of the pandemic, but Labor Day is still the time to bid the season farewell before pools close and kids start classes. In Falls Church, there are various closings and schedule changes to know for the holiday.

On Monday, Sept. 7, City of Falls Church and Fairfax County government offices will be closed to observe Labor Day. Students at Falls Church City Public Schools have already begun the school year virtually on Aug. 24, while Fairfax County Public Schools will start on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Below are the schedule changes to know for the Labor Day holiday around Falls Church:

City of Falls Church government offices: Closed on Sept. 7. City Council will have a virtual work session on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. It will be available at www.fallschurchva.gov/councilmeetings.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Sept. 7.

Courts: Arlington and Fairfax County courts are closed on Sept. 7.

Falls Church City Public Schools: Sept. 7 is an observed holiday. The first day of school was Monday, Aug. 24.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Sept. 7 is an observed holiday. The first day of school is Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Community Centers: The Falls Church Community Center remains closed to the public. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) community centers have been closed for all but the modified Youth Program, Camp Fairfax.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Sept. 7. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector for more information.

Libraries: Curbside pickup from the Mary Riley Styles Public Library will not be available on Sept. 6 and 7. The library building remains closed to the public. All Fairfax County Public Library locations are closed on Monday, Sept. 7.

Metrorail: Metrorail operates from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Labor Day.

Metrobus: Metrobus runs on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day. See bus schedules here.

Post offices: U.S. Postal Service offices are closed on Monday, Sept. 7.

Recreation centers: On Sept. 7, Fairfax County recreation centers are open for regular hours, except for George Washington RECenter, which will be closed.

Trash and recycling: City of Falls Church collections happen on Wednesdays. For Fairfax County collection customers, trash, recycling, yard waste and special collections happen on Labor Day. Check with private collectors for holiday service changes. The I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill Complex are open for regular hours on Labor Day.
