4th Of July 2020: What's Open, Closed In Herndon
Some services will be closed Fourth of July through the rest of the week.
HERNDON, VA — The nation is preparing to celebrate America's 244rd birthday this week, and with the holiday falling on a Saturday, that means many local businesses and government agencies will be shut down on Friday. However, that isn't the case for everyone.
So what is going to be open and what's going to be closed this holiday week? We have a breakdown for Herndon below:

Town of Herndon offices: Closed on Friday, July 3.
Herndon Parks and Recreation: all park amenities in the Town of Herndon are open except restrooms. Athletic fields are open for non-permitted use.

Fairfax County government offices: Fairfax County Government offices are closed on Friday, July 3. Most government buildings and offices have been closed to the public since March 27. See services available for residents online.
Schools: Closed
Courts: Courts do not operate on July 3. See operating updates from Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court.
Community centers: Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) NCS community centers, neighborhood centers, resource centers and teen centers are closed until further notice.
Fairfax Connector: Since April 11, Fairfax Connector bus service is operating with reductions on 14 routes, regular service on 38 routes and discontinued service on 39 routes. On July 3, Fairfax Connector is providing Saturday level service. www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connectorfor more information.
Libraries: All Fairfax County libraries are closed to the public until further notice, but curbside pickup is available. Libraries are typically closed in observation of the July 4 holiday.
Metrorail: Metrorail operates from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. The following Orange and Silver Line stations are closed for platform improvement projects: Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church, East Falls Church, Wiehle-Reston East, Spring Hill, Greensboro, Tysons Corner and McLean. Shuttle bus service is provided as an alternative.
Metrobus: Metrobus operates on weekdays from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends. Visit www.wmata.com for more details on specific routes.
Fairfax Count Park authority: Many Fairfax County Park Authority features are open. See the operating status list of parks, programs and facilities.
Post offices: Closed on Saturday, July 4.
Trash and recycling pickup: For county collection customers, regular trash, recycling, yard waste and special collection services happens on July. Items should be on the curb by 6 a.m. on collection day. The trash and recycling administrative office will be closed on July 3 and reopen on July 6. Private collection customers should check with their provider for changes.
Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) will be open on Friday, July 3 and closed on Saturday, July 4.
Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on July 4. On other days, it is operating on an "S" schedule until further notice. Residents can continue to find coronavirus-related service changes at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/status.
