HERNDON, VA — Virginia Department of Transportation recently completed work to rehabilitate the Route 7 westbound bridge over Sugarland Run in Herndon, according to a post on the department's official Twitter account.

The $4.4 million project included the construction of a new concrete bridge deck, repairs to the bridge pier and abutment, and upgrades to the guardrail, curb, and gutter area of the bridge.

Originally, the project was supposed to include widening the bridge and extending the acceleration lane from the Fairfax County Parkway on-ramp to Dranesville Road. These elements were removed from the project due to funding constraints.

The project was paid for using state funds and money from the federal State of Good Repair fund, which pays for bridge improvements across the country.

Construction work began in September 2020 and ended in April.
