Chances Of Snow Storm In Herndon 'Dropping Fast'

It's not too late for the storm to change its track, but right now it's projected to stay south of us.

HERNDON, VA -- The winter storm that has been teasing us in Herndon for more than a week now is getting ever closer, but local meteorologists are warning locals not to get their hopes up (assuming you want snow, of course).

NBC Washington meteorologist Doug Kammerer tweeted that, "Chances of a Sunday storm continue to drop and they are dropping fast!"

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang similarly placed a dim view on significant snowfall, placing it at a three out of 10 likelihood.

"So close yet so far; most models are not not [sic] willing to bring the Sunday storm far enough north for more than a dusting," they wrote. "But shifts are still possible."

If we miss snow, that will be because of a lack of precipitation not because of temperatures. It will be quite cold Sunday evening into Monday morning, with lows in the mid-20s. If any snow accumulation does happen, it's likely to happen during those overnight hours.

The latest models show the most substantial snow staying to our south, CWG says, but they add that there's still a lot of uncertainty and the storm could shift dramatically between now and then.
