After a year with no pyrotechnic displays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Herndon will be setting off fireworks again this year.
HERNDON, VA — After a year with no pyrotechnic displays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Herndon will be setting off fireworks again this year.
The event, at Bready Park, will open to the public at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, followed by the fireworks display from 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The rain date for the fireworks display is Monday, July 5 at 9:30 p.m.
Unlike pre-pandemic July 4 celebrations, Herndon's Parks and Recreation Department has scaled back this year's event to include only fireworks.

Attendees should bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the fireworks. Coolers and bags may be searched for alcohol or glass containers. Grills, cook stoves and personal fireworks are prohibited in the park. The Brady Park turf field will be closed during the fireworks display.
The town also urges residents to leave their pets at home. Pets will not be allowed in Bready Park for the fireworks display on July 4. Over the years, the Herndon parks department said it has learned that big crowds, loud fireworks and pets don’t mix so well.

Event parking will be available at Herndon Middle School, Herndon Community Center and the Herndon municipal parking lot on Center Street, next to ArtSpace. Vehicles parked in the Herndon Community Center and Bready Park parking lots will not be able to leave until the police declare the area safe, possibly up to 60 minutes after the end of the fireworks display.
The police will start closing streets and diverting traffic in the area of the fireworks display starting at 7:45 p.m. on July 4.
