If you happened to drive by Herndon High School this past Saturday, you may have wondered about the large number of charter buses in the parking lot. Was it Lollapalooza in Herndon? Van Halen back on tour?

Nope. Even better! It was the Showcase of Bands, an annual event hosted by the Herndon High School Marching Band (Pride of Herndon). This year was the largest ever for the showcase, with 28 marching bands from all over Virginia descending on Herndon throughout the day to
compete against one another in multiple categories.

From dawn to well after dark, HHS band students and many, many, many volunteers worked to ensure the visiting bands had a great experience and were able to compete successfully. As the host, Herndon did not compete, but closed out the night with their show, Heros.

A sextet of Herndon students on a variety of horns opened the show with National Anthem.

To pull off an event of this magnitude in the midst of the significant construction at the high school was truly a feat.

The Showcase is usually the final weekend in September – so if you missed it this year, it’s not too early to put it in your calendar for next year!
