Herndon Primary Election 2021: Early Voting Deadline Coming Up

HERNDON, VA — With the June 8 Democratic primary coming up in Herndon, residents should be aware of the early voting deadline.

The primary will include races for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and the House of Delegates.

There is no Republican primary, as the party chose nominees for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general through a convention.

In Virginia, voters no longer need an excuse to vote early by mail or in person. The deadline to vote early is 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 5.

Voters will need to return their mail-in ballots in-person by 7 p.m., on June 8. In order to be counted, ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by June 8 and received by 12 p.m., on June 11.

All in-person voters and those dropping off ballots are required to follow CDC COVID-19 guidance by wearing a mask or face covering and practicing safe social distancing.

For the 2020 election, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam authorized the use of 24-hour drop boxes where voters could return their completed ballots. In February, the Virginia General Assembly passed legislation to make 24-hour drop boxes permanent for voters in Virginia. The new law will go into effect on July 1.

For those voting in person on Election Day (June 8), polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. An acceptable form of ID is required for in-person voting. Find your polling place at vote.elections.virginia.gov.

Early, in-person voting will be open April 23 through June 5, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; and on Saturday, May 29 and June 5, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Any registered Fairfax County voter can vote at any of the following in-person voting centers:

Voting Hours

• Through May 29: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
• June 1-5: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday, June 5, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

All of the voting centers will be closed on Monday, May 31 in observance of Memorial Day.

The deadline in Fairfax County for requesting an application to vote by mail is 5 p.m., on Friday, May 28.

Voters will need to return their mail-in ballots by 7 p.m., on June 8. They can either drop them off in person or by mail by the June 8 deadline.
