Herndon's Mary Clougherty Receives College Leadership Award

BETHLEHEM, PA — A college basketball player from Herndon recently received an award from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, recognizing her leadership, integrity, and positive attitude, according to a press release.

Mary Clougherty was the recipient of the 2021 Marlene "Linny" Fowler Service Award, which is given to graduating student-athletes that exhibit a high-level integrity and a team-first attitude, while serving in a leadership role.

"This award honors a high level of commitment to serving others and making a difference within our Athletics Department, across campus, and in our community," according to the release.

Clougherty was an accounting student at Lehigh and, as a guard, she played all four years on the women's basketball team. In her sophomore year, she was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

For the 2020-21 season, the Lehigh women's basketball team finished 10-6 overall and 7-5 in the Patriot League.

In high school, Clougherty started all four years on the Chantilly women's basketball team. She was also a first team first team 6A All State selection in her senior year. In addition, she maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA and was captain of the school's state championship Forensics Team in both her junior and senior years.

Mary Clougherty is the daughter of Barbara and Bill Clougherty. She also has four siblings — Justine, Hattie, Leo, and Josh.
