NoVA, DC Weather: Flash Flood Watch Issued

There may be up to 3 inches of rain in northern Virginia, DC during the flash flood watch period, according to the National Weather Service.

WASHINGTON, DC — A flash flood watch is in effect for the District of Columbia and portions of northern Virginia Wednesday afternoon, July 31. The National Weather Service issues a flash flood watch when conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.

The watch has been issued for areas along the I-95 corridor from Washington D.C northward through Maryland. Showers and thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain — possibly 3 inches in some areas — may lead to localized areas of flash flooding.

The flash flood watch is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31. A flash flood watch means there is potential for a rapid rise in water level that can be life-threatening.
