WinterMarkt Returns For 2020 But In A Slightly Different Format

HERNDON, VA —The Herndon WinterMarkt will be returning for the 2020 season, although in a slightly different format, according to a post on the event's official Facebook page. Rather than a single outdoor celebration, this year's event will be offered in two new venues, MarketPlatz and WinterPlatz

MarketPlatz is a virtual platform that will offer handcrafted wares, German goods, holiday decorations, European delicacies, artwork and other seasonal fare. WinterMarkt will facilitate MarketPlatz via its website and social media outlets.

"Vendors will be added to the site as they are on-boarded, providing you with more time to shop before the holiday rush, and even more vendors to choose from, both near and far," said John Boylan, president and CEO of the Herndon Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Melissa Tilton, chair of the Herndon WinterMarkt Planning Committee in a Facebook post. "Included in the 2020 MarketPlatz will be commemorative WinterMarkt collectibles, including the official 2020 WinterMarkt Glühwein mug."

On Dec. 12-13, the community will be able to take part in WinterPlatz, a cluster of mini celebrations throughout the town. Local business will display holiday decorations and offer WinterPlatz specials.

"While we won’t be able to gather in person until WinterMarkt 2021, we look forward to celebrating the spirit of WinterMarkt with you this year, while supporting our community and local businesses," Boylan and Tilton said. " As a part of that effort, a local charity will be selected as the official charitable organization of WinterMarkt, thereby benefiting from donations from WinterMarkt and our friends."
