Wreaths Across America to Honor Herndon Service Members

The Town of Herndon and the Herndon Women's Club will honor fallen veterans laid to rest at Chestnut Grove Cemetery Saturday, Dec. 13.

The Town of Herndon, in partnership with the Herndon Women’s Club, will join national nonprofit Wreaths Across America in honoring fallen veterans who have been laid to rest at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

A remembrance ceremony for the fallen, prisoners of war and those missing in action will be held at Chestnut Grove Cemetery Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at noon. Volunteers, including Eagle Scouts and Boy Scouts from Herndon Troop 1577, will place commemorative live balsam wreaths on the stone pillars surrounding the cemetery. Similar wreaths will be placed at the headstones of fallen veterans at nearly 1,000 locations across the country and overseas.

“Each and every wreath is a gift from an appreciative person or family who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy,” said Karen Worcester, executive director of Wreaths Across America. “We are so humbled that the Town of Herndon is participating in our mission to Remember, Honor and Teach.”
