40 Percent Of Virginians Have First Coronavirus Vaccine Dose
The state is averaging over 77,000 doses administered per day after eligibility opened to everyone 16 and older.
VIRGINIA — Over 40 percent of people in Virginia have at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Virginia Department of Health. As of Tuesday, 2,198,898 people are fully vaccinated, or 25.8 percent of the population.
Vaccinations are continuing after eligibility opened to everyone 16 and older. All areas were directed to start phase 2 of vaccinations by April 18, but some areas of the state began the phase before then. Eligible residents can search for appointments directly through vaccinefinder.org, but people eligible in phases 1a, 1b or 1c having trouble finding an appointment can preregister at vaccinate.virginia.gov. Anyone with language or computer barriers can call the statewide vaccine hotline at 877-829-4682 daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
On a statewide level, an average of 77,220 doses are being administered per day. Local health department have given the most — 1,607,495. Pharmacies have administered 1,364,733, hospitals have administered 986,913, medical practices have administered 821,379, and other community health providers have given 690,341.

The state also tracks rates of vaccinations by locality. The highest fully vaccinated rate in the state is in Lancaster County with a rate of 39,291 per 100,000 people.

COVID-19 data
On Wednesday, 1,261 additional COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths were reported. The seven-day average of daily cases is 1,342 and seven-day average of daily death reports is 18.6.
The positive average of PCR tests remains stable at 6 percent as of April 17. On average, 17,970 PCR testing encounters are reported daily in Virginia.
Hospitalizations stand at 1,118, which include 271 patients in the intensive care units and 130 on ventilators. COVID-19 patients make up about 8.3 percent of the 13,385 occupied hospital beds in Virginia.
Ventilator use among all hospital patients remains at 28 percent, and ICU occupancy is at 77 percent, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.
