An anti-Trump group in Charlottesville is asking Wegmans grocery stores in Virginia to pull Trump wines from its shelves. The group, Stop Trump Wines, posted this message on its Facebook page:
"Hey Wegmans! Welcome to Charlottesville. Wanna help us #stoptrumpwine?"
The group, Stop Trump Wines, says that "in spite of his [President Donald Trump's] election, we will work every day of his presidency to remind Trump and his supporters that we will not condone the bigotry, racism, and misogyny that he and his allies demonstrate. Events during Donald Trump's campaign made it clear that Eric Trump, the president of Trump Winery in Charlottesville, Virginia, shares the views of his father. Let's demonstrate through economic action that the residents and business owners of Charlottesville will not stand for the hatred espoused by Eric Trump and those like him."

Wegmans offers 237 different wines in its stores, including Trump wines among 58 Virginia wines carried in its Virginia stores "as part of our commitment to work with suppliers near our stores," Wegmans' Jo Natale, vice president of media relations, said Wednesday morning.

Wegmans has locations in Virginia in Leesburg, Sterling, Fairfax, Gainesville, Alexandria, Woodbridge, Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, Henrico and Midlothian.
"We have been carrying wines from Kluge Winery (now Trump Winery) since 2008," Natale said. "When Kluge was sold in 2011, we continued to offer their wines, now under the Trump brand." The brand is only carried in Wegmans' Virginia stores.
"Our role as a retailer is to offer choice to our customers," Natale said. "For various reasons, we are sometimes asked to stop selling a product. Our response is always the same, no matter the product: How a product performs is our single measure for what stays on our shelves and what goes. Individual shoppers who feel strongly about an issue can demonstrate their convictions by refusing to buy a product. When enough people do the same, and sales of a product drop precipitously, we stop selling that product in favor of one that’s in greater demand."
On the anti-Trump group's Web site, they not only are asking people to not buy Trump wines at Wegmans, they are also asking that people stop visiting the winery in Charlottesville and that local businesses refrain from doing business with the winery.
