BREAKING: Cobb, Marietta Schools Decide On Classes, Activities

More snow is expected Friday across metro Atlanta, says the National Weather Service.

UPDATE — Public schools in Marietta and Cobb County have announced they will close classes early today due to the snowstorm. The Cobb County School District announced it will release students early Friday using the following schedule:

  • High Schools - 11:30 a.m.
  • Middle Schools - 12:30 p.m.
  • Elementary Schools - 1:30 p.m.

The After School Program (ASP) is closed. All field trips and extracurricular activities for Friday and Saturday are cancelled. This includes the ACT test sites at CCSD schools. The ACT will be rescheduled at a later date. The Marietta City Schools announced a two-hour early release on this schedule:

  • Marietta High – 12:30 p.m.
  • Marietta Middle School – 12:30 p.m.
  • All MCS Elementary Schools – 1:15 p.m.
  • MSGA– 2 p.m.
  • MCAA – 2 p.m.

The Marietta school buses will run the normal routes following early release.

The National Weather Service on Friday morning issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of north and central Georgia, including metro Atlanta. According to the NWS, the wintry mix of rain and snow should turn to all snow across north and west-central Georgia Friday.

MARIETTA, GA — Despite Friday's snowfall, all schools in Marietta and Cobb County opened for classes as usual. But the Marietta schools announced that all after-school care and activities are cancelled tonight.

In the Cobb County School District, all extracurricular activities for Friday night and Saturday are cancelled, the district announced on its Facebook page. The After School Program (ASP) will operate as usual on Friday, but parents are encouraged to pick their children up from ASP as early as possible.
