Flashing Chevrons Added On Springfield, Woodbridge I-95 Ramps
VDOT has installed the first flashing chevrons in Northern Virginia to guide drivers on two ramps.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — The Virginia Department of Transportation has installed flashing chevrons as a safety measure along Interstate 95 ramps in Woodbridge and Springfield. These were the first flashing chevrons added in Northern Virginia.
The flashing chevrons are located on a ramp from southbound I-95 to eastbound 644 (Franconia Road or Exit 169A) in Springfield, as well as northbound I-95 to northbound Route 123 (Gordon Boulevard or Exit 160B). According to VDOT, these features guide drivers around the curve of the ramps, especially at night.
The improvements cost $32,000 at the Woodbridge ramp and $25,000 at the Springfield ramp. The chevrons are solar powered.
