GoFundMe Supports Family Of Bicyclist Killed On Telegraph Road
The fundraiser will support funeral costs for the woman, who died in a June 3 crash on Telegraph Road.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — After a June 3 crash killed a bicyclist on Telegraph Road, a fundraiser was started to support funeral costs.
Fatima Del Carmen Alvarez Romero, 24, of Alexandria was identified as the victim in the fatal crash at Telegraph Road and Franconia Road. Her sister started a GoFundMe page to support funeral costs to give her a "proper memorial service." Alvarez Romero is remembered as a daughter to Lilian and Feliciano, sister to Blanca, Cecilia, Gladis and Elena, and aunt to Brianna, Jaden and Milan.
"Anyone that knew Fatima will say that she was always giggling and had that shy smile that will be missed," Gladis Alvarez wrote on the GoFundMe page. "She would do anything for her family and we feel we should do the same for her. It’s a hard time for our family but we are trying to remember the good times we had with her."

As of Tuesday, the fundraiser surpassed its initial goal of $10,000.
Alvarez Romero had been pronounced dead on the scene of the June 3 crash. Fairfax County Police say a vehicle heading north on Telegraph Road struck the bicyclist at the Franconia Road intersection. Detectives believe the bicyclist entered a crosswalk to cross Telegraph Road on the south side of the intersection, and the vehicle had a green traffic signal. The vehicle driver remained on the scene of the crash.
