Guest Parking Concerns Prompt Proposed Change In Kingstowne
The homeowners' association looks to bring back time limits for unassigned parking spots.
KINGSTOWNE, VA — Concerns about guest parking have led to a proposed policy change in the Kingstowne community. The Kingstowne Residential Owners Corporation board will hold a public hearing on time limits for parking in unassigned spaces.
The proposed policy change states:
No vehicle shall be left unmoved in an unassigned parking space within a parking facility/private street of KROC. Vehicles are considered unmoved if left for fifteen (15) days without moving by at least 300 feet. Unmoved vehicles will be subject to towing, at the owner’s expense, after forty-eight (48) hours of being issued a citation, which will be placed on the vehicle.
Residents have raised concerns about the quantity of parking spaces, but the homeowners' association says adding more parking isn't an option. The proposal seeks to address resident use of unassigned parking spaces intended for guests.

The 15-day time limit would apply to streets privately-owned by the Kingstowne Residential Owners Corporation, mirroring the Fairfax County policy on unattended vehicles on public roads. Condominiums and apartment buildings fall under this policy, but each may implement additional parking restrictions.
Residents can provide feedback at the public at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2020 at the Thompson Center ballroom, 6090 Kingstowne Village Parkway, Alexandria, VA. Comments can also be emailed to ARC@kingstowne.org.
