FORT BELVOIR, VA — Fairfax County leaders are renewing a push to allow its police department to conduct speed limit enforcement on the Pentagon-owned Jeff Todd Way.

In 2016, an agreement had been sent to the Pentagon for a signature to allow Fairfax County Police enforcement on the road, WTOP reported. That agreement was never signed by the Pentagon, and leaders are sending another request to the Pentagon.

Jeff Todd Way has a speed limit of 40 mph between Telegraph Road and Pole Road and 35 mph between Pole Road and Richmond Highway. Residents in the area told Fox5 the speeding spurs concerns of crossing the road and turning out of their neighborhoods.

According to WTOP, Fairfax County Police get asked to enforce speed limits, but Fort Belvoir officers have jurisdiction and may not regularly enforce.

Jeff Todd Way opened in 2014 as a road connecting Telegraph Road to Richmond Highway via Fort Belvoir. It was named after Jeff Todd, the late businessman who owned three local Roy Rogers restaurants.
