Lee District Meeting On Proposed Fairfax County Budget Planned
The town hall meeting will focus on the proposed budget, which would raise the real estate tax by 3 cents.
FRANCONIA, VA — After County Executive Bryan Hill presented his proposed budget for fiscal year 2021 on Feb. 25, a public meeting is coming up with Lee District Supervisor Rodney Lusk. It will be held Saturday, March 7 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Franconia Governmental Center Community Room, 6121 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA.
The proposed county budget would raise the real estate tax by 3 cents to make the rate $1.18 per $100 of assessed value. The proposal would allocate two cents of the tax hike would go the general fund and one cent to affordable housing.
Even without a tax increase, residents in the Lee District and across Fairfax County would see the average tax bill rise due to increasing assessment values in 2020. The latest property assessments show an average 3.92 percent increase in the Lee District from 2019, the highest jump among Fairfax County's supervisor districts. The next highest average increases were in the Mason District (3.57 percent) and Mount Vernon District (3.08 percent). Nearly 79 percent of residential property countywide saw assessments go up.
