The proposed county budget calls for a one-cent real estate tax cut, which would make the real estate tax rate $1.14 per $100 of assessed value. But based on increased property assessment values, the average real estate tax bill could go up by $224.
The Board of Supervisors set the real estate tax ceiling at $1.15 per $100 of assessed value — the current rate — which means a higher rate cannot be considered. During the March 9 board meeting, Lusk said he plans to look for savings opportunities within the budgets as fixed-income residents in his district face higher assessment values. The Lee District had the highest average residential property value increase in 2021 assessments.
