Man Dies In DeKalb House Fire: Reports

Four others escape the early morning blaze at home on Covington Highway, say media reports.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — DeKalb County firefighters are investigating the cause of a house fire early Thursday in which a 42-year-old man died, according to media reports. Firefighters responded at about 4 a.m. Thursday to the blaze in the 7300 block of Covington Highway, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Four family members escaped the blaze, and one was taken to a local hospital, the AJC reported. The 42-year-old man was found dead in a second-floor bedroom.

When firefighters arrived, they found about 70 percent of the two-story house engulfed in flames, according to a DeKalb fire spokesman.

The official said the flames were so intense that it took several attempts to reach the 42-year-old man, with firefighters using a ladder to reach the second floor.
