In Memoriam: Gladys B. Keating, 91, Represented Franconia in House of Delegates

Keating was senior female member in Virginia legislature when she retired in 2000, after representing area of Fairfax County 22 years.

Former Delegate Gladys B. Keating, 91, who represented Franconia in Richmond over 22 years, died Aug. 19 in North Carolina of congestive heart failure, the Washington Post reported.

She championed consumer issues such as making sure stores displayed information on return policies and legislation that benefited women including making sure children were covered by insurance in divorce cases.

A native of New York, she lived in the DC area with her husband John A. Keating, an Army officer and their children; she moved to North Carolina earlier this year. She attended Queens College in New York, Weatherford College in Texas and George Mason University in Virginia.

A funeral was held Saturday at Olivet Episcopal Church.
