Metro Begins Sales of 2017 Commemorative Inaugural SmarTrip Card
No waiting in lines on the big day: Special one-day pass valid for unlimited trips on Metrorail or Metrobus on Inauguration Day Jan. 20.

Metro has begun sales of its Commemorative SmarTrip® Card for the 2017 Presidential Inauguration. Available for advance purchase for only $10 -- a 40 percent savings, Metro points out -- each Commemorative Card comes preloaded with a special one-day pass valid for unlimited trips on Metrorail or Metrobus on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.
Metro is promoting the Commemorative Cards as a great value and a smart way to avoid potentially long lines at station vending machines. Customers can purchase the Inaugural SmarTrip Card online at wmata.com/inauguration.
"Our goal is to get as many Commemorative Cards into circulation as possible among our Inauguration Day guests so they can skip the lines and head right for the train or bus," said Metro General Manager/CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld, in an announcement about the sales. "We encourage everyone coming to the National Mall to purchase theirs in advance." Group organizers interested in purchasing 25 or more cards can call Metro's bulk sales office (202) 962-5700 for assistance.

About the 2017 Commemorative Inaugural SmarTrip Card
- The Commemorative Card is valid for unlimited Metrorail and Metrobus trips on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, 2017.
- Each rider, age 5 years and older, must have his or her own SmarTrip card to use Metro.
- Riders can load cash value or passes onto the Commemorative Card and use it like any other SmarTrip card on dates other than Jan. 20, 2017.
- The Commemorative Card does not include parking fees, which will be charged on Inauguration Day. If parking at a Metrorail facility, Metro recommends paying with a credit card (no extra fee will be charged if a credit card is used on Inauguration Day).
