Thanksgiving Weather Forecast: Wind Advisory For NoVA, DC

Downed trees and power lines as well as outages are possible as a wind advisory continues into Thanksgiving.

WASHINGTON, DC — It doesn't look like snow is in the cards for this Thanksgiving in the DC region, but we've got some other hazardous conditions to watch for. Residents should expect stronger-than-usual winds Wednesday heading into Thursday afternoon.

The region is under a wind advisory from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 1 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. That means winds will be around 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Damaging winds could make downed trees and power lines possible, as well as widespread outages. Drivers heading to their Thanksgiving destinations should use caution in these conditions, and residents should secure outdoor items that winds could impact.

The wind advisory applies to the District of Columbia, Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park, Fairfax County, Arlington County, Falls Church, Alexandria, northern Fauquier County, and Loudoun County.
