Veterans Day 2019: Schedule Changes Around Kingstowne
Veterans Day honors all who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Here's what's open and closed for the federal holiday.
KINGSTOWNE, VA — Veterans Day falls on Monday, Nov. 11, and there will be chances to honor veterans as well as schedule changes around Kingstowne.
The closest Veterans Day ceremony takes place in Alexandria. Head over to the Mount Vernon Recreation Center, 2701 Commonwealth Avenue from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for the 18th annual event. The ceremony honors the 68 Alexandrians killed in the Vietnam War and other veterans, including posthumous Medal of Honor recipient Captain Rocky Versace.
Fairfax County government offices will be closed for the federal holiday, but other services may follow a different schedule:

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Nov. 11.
Fairfax County Public Schools: Open on Nov. 11.

Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a holiday weekday schedule on Nov. 11. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector for more information.
Kingstowne Residential Owners Corporation offices: Open on Nov. 11.
Kingstowne fitness centers: Open on Nov. 11.
Libraries: The library catalog will be unavailable starting Nov. 6 at 9 p.m. as it is upgraded. Residents can check out and hold materials, but catalog searches and account services will be interrupted. The library will be closed Nov. 11 and 12 and reopens with the new library catalog on Nov. 13.
Metrorail: The Metro system will be open 5 a.m.-11:30 p.m. and operate on a Saturday schedule.
Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Saturday and supplemental schedule on Nov. 11. See bus timetables.
Parks: Fairfax County Park Authority parks are open on Nov. 11. The Historic House at Green Spring Gardens is closed. Visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/holiday-hours for more information.
Post offices: Closed on Nov. 11.
Recreation centers: Open regular hours on Nov. 11.
Trash and recycling: County trash and recycling collections occur on Nov. 11 while the Customer Service Center is closed. Contact private providers for any schedule changes. The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) are open.
Virginia Railway Express: VRE will not operate on Nov. 11. For more information, visit www.vre.org.
