Virtual Meetings On Franconia-Springfield Bus Service Planned
The county's transportation department developed a final preferred plan for changes to Fairfax Connector's Franconia-Springfield service.

FRANCONIA, VA — The Fairfax County Department of Transportation will present its preferred plan for proposed Fairfax Connector bus service improvements in the Franconia-Springfield area at two virtual community meetings.
County staff have been conducting a study to better understand how people get around the Franconia-Springfield area on Fairfax Connector buses and developed three possible scenarios for improvements to the bus network. From there, county staff took the best elements from the three scenarios and existing service to develop the final preferred plan.
Public feedback through previous meetings and an online survey helped develop this preferred plan. A new survey open from Sept. 15 to Oct. 16 addresses specific routes and details what changes are proposed, if any. Residents can also view a full map of the current bus system and routes in the preferred plan for peak and off-peak service as well as weekends.

According to county estimations, the preferred plan creates an average travel time between key origins and destinations of 43 minutes. The average under the existing bus network is 52 minutes. In addition, the preferred plan would increase the number of households within a quarter mile of the system from 69,379 to 76,889. The low-income households making $50,000 or less within a quarter mile would increase from 13,409 to 14,835.
The virtual meetings will allow residents to view the preferred plan for bus service and provide input. Residents may also complete the survey or mail comments to Fairfax County Department of Transportation, 4050 Legato Road, Suite 400, Fairfax, VA 22033.
