VIRGINIA — CVS Health has joined the COVID-19 vaccine providers in offering walk-in appointments in Virginia and other states.

The pharmacy chain announced Wednesday it is accepting walk-in appointments at nationwide locations, including 342 in Virginia. Same-day scheduling is also available online, with appointments offered as soon as one hour in advance. The vaccine scheduler is updated throughout the day to account for same-day bookings and cancellations.

"We continue to orchestrate an all-out effort to vaccinate the nation against COVID-19," said CVS Health President and CEO Karen S. Lynch in a statement. "Thanks to the dedication and effort of our colleagues, I am proud to say we helped achieve the President’s accelerated 100-day goal of 200 million vaccines and have administered over 17 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to date."

After COVID-19 vaccines were first authorized in late 2020, CVS Health first provided vaccines through the Long-Term Care Program and Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. As eligibility expanded, the pharmacy chain began offering the vaccine to eligible groups in limited locations through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. As of Wednesday, CVS Health is now administering the vaccine in over 8,300 stores in 49 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.

In Virginia, residents 16 and older are eligible for the vaccine. Anyone 18 and up can receive the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccines, but the Pfizer vaccine is the only one approved for ages 16 and 17. Vaccine authorization for ages 12 to 15 is anticipated in May.
