What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2019 In Kingstowne

While many services are closed for the Thanksgiving holiday, some will remain closed on Black Friday.

KINGSTOWNE, VA — While closures are a given for most services on Thanksgiving, Kingstowne residents should be aware of closures on surrounding days like Black Friday.

Here are the openings and closings to know on and around Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving) and Friday, Nov. 29 (Black Friday). Government offices, libraries and community centers will be closed for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, while services like recreation centers and post offices will operate on Black Friday.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed Nov. 28-29.

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court closed at noon on Nov. 27 and are closed Nov. 28-29.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed Nov. 27-29.

Community centers: Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) programs, activities and facilities will be closed Nov. 28-30.

Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Nov. 28 and holiday weekday schedule on Nov. 29. Fastran will not operate on Nov. 28-29. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector for more information.

Kingstowne fitness centers: Closed on Nov. 28 and open Nov. 29 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Kingstowne Residential Owners Corporation office: Closed from 3 p.m. Nov. 27 through Dec. 1. The office reopens at 9 a.m. on Dec. 2.

Libraries: Fairfax County libraries are closed Nov. 28-29.

Metrorail: On Nov. 28, the Metro system will be open 8 a.m.-11 p.m. and operate on a Sunday schedule. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Nov. 28. See bus timetables.

Parks: Fairfax County Park Authority parks closed on Nov. 28. All parks are open on Nov. 29, except the Historic House at Green Spring Gardens. Visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/holiday-hours for more information.

Post offices: Closed on Nov. 28.

Recreation centers: Open until noon on Nov. 28. George Washington RECenter is closed. Recreation centers are open regular hours on Nov. 29.

Trash and recycling: County trash and recycling collections occur on Nov. 28 while the Customer Service Center is closed. Contact private providers for any schedule changes. The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) are closed on Nov. 28.

Virginia Railway Express: VRE will not run on Nov. 28 and will operate on an S schedule on Nov. 29. For more information, visit www.vre.org.
