Here's a way to have some fun while also helping folks who suffer from PTSD, autism, paraplegia, quadriplegia, brain injury and the like.

OCCOQUAN, VA—Here's a way to have some fun while also helping folks who suffer from PTSD, autism, paraplegia, quadriplegia, traumatic brain injury and other disabilities. Presenting the 12th annual Duck Splash, 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, outside Patriot Scuba at 305 Mill Street.
We're talking about a rubber duck race down the Occoquan River. You can "adopt" a duck for $5 at the Patriot Scuba shop or from its website. The owner of the winning duck gets $500; second place through fifth place wins $100, and sixth through 10th wins $20.
Proceeds go to Patriots for Disabled Divers, a non-profit that says it's "dedicated to bringing the joy and proven healing power of scuba to people with disabilities." Patriot Scuba adds that you don't have to be present to win, and also that participants don't get to actually keep the ducks.
