Prince William Schools Apologize for Snow Complications

No early release, but evening programs will be impacted by weather.

Prince William County Public Schools officials are reacting to critics of a school day that went ahead as planned, even as snow fell on roadways and cold bus stops.

In a statement on the Facebook page, PWCPS officials apologized for “weather-related complications.”

“Multiple PWCS staff were on duty monitoring the weather and roads throughout the night and into the early-morning hours,” according to the statement. “Based upon this information, we decided to keep schools open. At that point in time, multiple weather forecasts only called for a small accumulation of snow—up to one inch.”

The forecast would eventually shift to more than 4 inches. “Unfortunately, this was logistically too late to reverse course on the decision,” according to the statement.

Schools will close on time, but all after school and evening activities are canceled including Night School, GED, and Adult Education classes. SACC will close at 5 p.m.
